Q.What techniques are employed for converting existing constants (screen & report literals)?
A. Screen constants are converted to MSGID or MSGCON (option). If the report uses a printer file, the constants are converted to MSGCON. If the report uses an internal printer file, the program is regenerated and the constants are externalized.
Q. Does it convert existing error message descriptions that are coded using the ERRMSG keyword?
A. Yes. It converts ERRMSG to ERRMSGID.
Q. Does it convert text held in Arrays within the RPG (e.g.., Function Key text), or does it only convert information held in the DDS of DSPFs & PRTFs?
A. Yes. It converts text in arrays as well as table look-ups.
Q. How does it handle CCSID issues?
A. The job controls the CCSID. The constants are stored externally from the programs and file.
Q. How is Help Text converted?
A. Help text is not converted. However, you can use our product Create Help Utility. That product will externalize your help to panel group objects, which can be translated.
Q. Does it make use of any dictionary or lookup facilities so that common literals (such as Client, Debtor, Address etc) don't have to be translated for every occurrence?
A. Yes. It reuses multiple occurrences of the same words. e.g. once you convert "Press Enter"; you will not need to convert it again.
Q. What support is provided to warn where space is limited for the translated literal (e.g., When "Client" becomes "Leverancier" (in Dutch) and there is only room for 6 characters.)?
A. The tools do not allow you to key more text than the original text size.
Q. After conversion, can the language that is used be controlled at the System, Database or User level?
A. The text is stored in separate libraries and therefore can me controlled to the user level by changing the library list.
